We just made an open road for the future of our family.........More Family meals around the table, roadtrips, laughter, sharing, loving, growing, giving, respect, loving the Lord. The list is endless.
First of all, a short preface of, we had desires to leave town for the weekend and take a little roadtrip to the West coast of Florida to visit friends and "get away". Key words were "GET AWAY"....from all our stuff.
Instead, we made a different plan and just stayed home. We spent all weekend cleaning out our closets per se, we filled my car (Honda Element) FULL with stuff for the Goodwill/trash dump. When Papa Bear dropped it all off, the guy at the receiving dock said, "WOW!" Another couple dropping some things off said, "We really need to go home and get rid of all our stuff!" Just imagine how WE feel? It's amazing how MUCH unneeded stuff we keep for Y ..E ..E ..E ...E ..E ....E ...E ....A ...A ..A. ..A. .A ..A. ..R ...R.. ...R ....R .....R ...R ...R ..S ....S ....S ...S! It opens up so much space when you just choose to get rid of it. Alot of it never belonged there in the first place. But move after move, state after state, we box these "things" up and take them with us, like they are worth millions. In fact, they are costing us to keep them; cluttering our living and emotional space, emotional stress leads to all sorts of danger in our lives, it stunts the ability to move forward and grow physically and spiritually.
It's truly AMAZING how good we feel to have let go! Alot of things we let go that were being held on for "sentimental reasons", we began to look at them in a whole new way, we started asking ourselves "what if THIS becomes some child's favorite FILL IN THE BLANK.....?", because all we've been doing with it by saving it is keeping it hidden in a box. If we let go of it then maybe it will come alive in the hands of another child who can appreciate and love it, kinda like in the movie TOY STORY (for those of you who have seen it). Giving is always more rewarding than receiving, right?
We have a few more Honda Elements to fill........I encourage you to Pray first, before doing this. Ask God to help you let go of the things that clutter your home and mind and keep you bound to them and ultimately really don't belong there in the first place. Pray that He will give you peace, guidance, His wisdom and a giving heart to know and believe that these things don't belong to you anymore and you may find along the way of opening those closets up and digging into the depths of your boxes and drawers....or heart, that you are holding onto some things that connect you to someone or a time in your life and maybe it's just the past you're not willing to let go of. I assure you, because we all do it, that there are a few things or many things that are sitting, blocking your space and it's ok to say goodbye. God will bless you for it and you WILL feel the burden lifted, pretty much, right away. I KNOW we did. It encourages us to let go of more and to not want to replace all the things we let go of with new things but to be at peace with the new open road we gave ourselves. God has amazing plans for ALL of us...."For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11. Meaning, God knows us personally, has a plan for us, and allows us to find hope in Him.
Open up that road and lighten the load. You deserve to live in peace and comfort, especially in your own home. Your heart.
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." -Matthew 6:19-21
"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." -2 Corinthians 9:6-7
"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." -1 John 3: 17-18

Psalm 78:4 We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.
